Park Improvements

Fountain Restoration at West Park

Summer 2009, the fountain in West Park has been fully refurbished in cooperation with the Robert F. Hunsicker Family Foundation and the City of Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation.

 

 

Volunteer Projects

Playground Cleanup at Old Fairgrounds (Part Two)

June 2010.  In cooperation with the Old Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association, volunteers from Friends, Temple Beth El and the surrounding neighborhood braved heavy downpours to clean up litter and continue beautification efforts in the playground.  Stay tuned for another event in Fall 2010!

Bucky Boyle Beautification and Clean-Up

May 2010.  Volunteers from Friends, Sheridan Elementary, and a local environmental blog spent Mother’s Day afternoon in the park, click here for details.

Get to Know Your Backyard, Spring 2010 Series

May & June 2010: Presentations on Integrated Pest Management and Rose Gardening were given by Penn State Master Gardener Doug Files, and an instructional program on Rain Gardens was given by Bruce Fritzinger, Senior Vice President of Landscape Design & Sales, Chairman of the Board, Plantique Inc.

Other Events

Tai Chi in the Allentown Rose Garden

June 2010.  In cooperation with the Lehigh County Senior Center, participants in the two-week Tai Chi class started their day with a gentle workout in the rose garden.

Yoga in the Parks

August – October 2010.  In cooperation with Lehigh Valley Yoga and the Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation, participants enjoyed this 10-week yoga offering at two great Allentown locations – the Allentown Rose Garden and Trout Creek Parkway.
